The Roxy Cinema

The Hungarian Film Festival is dedicated to presenting a range of high quality, unique, cutting edge, exciting and little-seen work in New Zealand. It is great opportunity to immerse yourself in the energy and originality of Hungarian culture through the evocative images offered by the selection of five outstanding films every night between 21-25 October at 6pm.

21 October, 6pm
Bad Poems a comedy-drama. A magical films with the power to transform the ordinary into extraordinary, the very personal into something universal. The Best Hungarian Film in 2019!

22 October, 6pm
The Troupe a historical road movie about a handful of travelling actors. Meetings and partings, friendship and betrayal, love and hatred… With all in one, to Budapest the troupe goes!

23 October, 6pm
Trezor a political thriller, full of unexpected twists, where nothing and no one is what they seem to be. The film commemorates the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

24 October, 6 pm
Brazils an ethno-tale with humour and tears. The surprise hit of the year 2017! It was for the first time a Hungarian film had a larger attendance the second week than the first.

25 October, 6pm
One Day a modest drama. It’s a confidently and naturalistically helmed feature film, delivered in a precisely detailed, unhurried, hyper-real way. The film nabbed the Fipresci award at the Cannes Film Festival.
